About X’ene Sky:

X’ene Sky, named after the lead singer of L.A punk band X, began piano at 4 years old. Born and raised in Los Angeles, X’ene was drawn to the sounds of classical music early. Exposed to Reggae, Jazz, African, and R&B, X’ene demonstrated a love and passion for music and performance that would fuel her interest in piano for the rest of her childhood. After moving to Houston, Texas, X’ene attended The High School of Performing and Visual Arts and privately studied with pianist Kana Mimaki. After High school, X’ene made the decision to study with acclaimed pianist and teacher Nancy Garrett at the University of Texas at Austin where she has grown as a pianist and person, performing in numerous concerts, hosting her own radio show, and even organizing a “Trayvon Martin Rally Against Stereotypes” on her campus. X’ene’s passion and sensitivity for piano can be heard in all her performances, but her heart truly lies within the music of Debussy, Ravel, Satie and Poulenc. She is determined to reintroduce music back into the schools believing that every child should have the chance to express themselves through the arts. X’ene is currently participating in several music festivals and looks forward to working with Team Game Changers this summer!
